He became popular as a VJ on Channel [V almost a decade ago,and now Gaurav Kapoor is getting ready to host the second season of UTV Bindass’s Big Switch. “The concept is topical and interesting. It is the channel’s flagship show and they have a lot riding on it,” says the anchor cum actor, who replaces actress Genelia D’Souza, who was the host in season one. There has also been a slight twist in the concept of the reality show — while earlier it brought together the rich and poor, now it will have cool and not-so-cool parents. Eight teens will exchange their parents for a bunch of ‘dream parents’. “Family badal jayegi. The whole concept is based on generation gap — it has been talked about, but there has been no show depicting it,” says Kapoor about the series that will start on November 19.

“It is the place to be if you think that your family does not understand you or if you are totally fed up with your parents,” says Kapoor, promising that the show will provide daily dose of drama. “There will be pressure cooker situations. The show does not intend to break families,in fact it is aimed at bridging the gap and bringing together those who have drifted apart,” he says. Would he jump in and share space with the contestants and replace his parents? “Given a chance, they would certainly trade me with a circus monkey, but for me they are perfect. They are the best,” he states.

Kapoor opts to be diplomatic when asked to choose between acting, anchoring and hosting. “I am a performer and love changes. It is difficult to confine myself to one thing,so I keep looking for something new, irrespective of the medium,” says the actor. He does abstain from dramatic roles though. “I am not a Bigg Boss person. I cringe at the idea of being part of anything like that. I am a fun person and all my upcoming films are light-hearted comedies,” says Kapoor, who will soon be seen in Office Office and Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s Saluun. “I loved the television show Office Office and literally chased people for a role in the film. Saluun is a comedy about a simple saloon owner and how he gets caught in the corrupt government machinery,” he adds. His criteria for choosing a film? “I should be able to sit and watch it with my folks,” states the actor, who also does his bit for creating awareness about diabetes by reaching out to children who suffer from the condition. “It is increasing in epidemic proportions. I want to help children to come to terms with it and not lose their confidence,” states Kapoor, who has also announced a Diabetes Survivor award with an NGO.
