Australia open to ties with Panjab University

The two sides discussed about Australia-India education opportunities and research relationships, including those under the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF).

Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Patrick Suckling, visited Panjab University (PU) Tuesday, and met PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover and representatives of Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC) Institutions. During the meeting, delegates from Australia evinced interest to have closer ties with PU and CRIKC.

First Secretary at the Australian High Commission, Lachlan Scully, and Business Development Manager & Chandigarh Representative, Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) Ashish Sharma were also present in the meeting.

Additionally, Director Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Professor Ashok K Ganguli, CRIKC Coordinator Professor M M Gupta, Dean International Students Professor Ramanjit Kaur Johal, Dean Languages Professor Jaspal Kaur Kaang, Dean Alumni Professor Anil Monga and Professor Sanjay Chhiber participated in the meeting.

The two sides discussed about Australia-India education opportunities and research relationships, including those under the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF).

Meetings between all directors/heads of CRIKC institutions and members of the education division of the Australian High Commission in India will soon be held to concertise collaboration plans before the forthcoming visit of top universities of Australia to India.

Patrick Suckling appreciated the ongoing cooperation among the various leading educational institutions and national labs of Chandigarh region under the aegis of CRIKC. “We would like to put Chandigarh on the route map of all visiting Australian educational delegations to India,” he said.
