Arpit’s spin castes spell

Owing to Chandigarh off-spinner’s brilliant spell (6 for 53),Chandigarh beat Amritsar in Dhruv Pandove Trophy.

Riding high on off-spinner Arpit Singh’s brilliant bowling performance (6 for 53),Chandigarh team bowled out Amritsar for 163 runs in the second innings to record an outright victory in the match played at the Gandhi Grounds during Punjab Inter-District U-19 cricket tournament for Dhruv Pandove Trophy. Arpit Singh bowled an intelligent and inspiring spell in which he accounted for six Amritsar batsmen for just 53 runs. Resuming at 64 for 2,Amritsar batsmen could not take the measure of Arpit’s superb spin and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. The only resistance came from Karan Sharma (40),Navneet Singh (53) and Karan Pathal (23). With this outright win,Chandigarh garnered six points. With 21 points each,Chandigarh and Patiala are tied at top spot at the end of the fourth round of matches.

Ludhiana bag three pts

MEANWHILE in the second match played at the PAU grounds,Ludhiana pocketed three points for their first innings lead against Jalandhar after their match was drawn. Ludhiana,who were 180 for 8 overnight were bowled out for 223 runs,setting a target of 270 for Jalandhar for an outright win. Jalandhar ended the day with 238 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets in 75 overs. Their innings was sustained by Himanshu Sharma (64) and Mansab Gill (58). Leg-spinner Sandeep Singh bowled almost unchanged from one end,sending down 30 overs and captured six wickets for 74 runs. However,his heroic effort could not earn an outright win for his team who had to be satisfied with first innings points.
