Panchkula: As many as 426 booths have been set up in the district by health department,Panchkula,to administer polio drops to the children between the age groups of 0 and 5 years under the Sub National Pulse Polio Round on September 25. While giving this information here on Tuesday,Deputy Commissioner Ashima Brar said separate teams had been constituted to administer polio drops to the children at bus stops and railway stations. The teams will remain available at the all the booths from 9 am to 4 pm. She urged the people of rural areas and slums to administer polio drops to their children.

College NSS unit holds blood donation camp

Sas Nagar: The National Service Scheme(NSS) unit of the Shaheed Udham Singh College of Engineering and Technology,Tangori,organised a blood donation camp in its campus in collaboration with Government Medical College,Sector-32,Chandigarh and Government Rajindra College,Patiala. The camp saw many volunteers coming forward to donate blood and at the end of the day 275 units of blood were collected.

IOC donates Rs 3.20 lakh to HelpAge India

Chandigarh: The Indian Oil Corporation Limited on Tuesday donated a sum of Rs 3.2 lakh to the Chandigarh Unit of HelpAge India to help the organisation promote its Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) service. HelpAge India runs the MMU service which provides medical check-up at the doorstep of old people living in rural areas. While handing over the cheque ,General Manager of Indian Oil Corporation,RK Arora said,“We had always wished to extend helping hand to HelpAge India in its efforts to ensure the well-being of the poor elderly”.

Security sought for Yamunanagar mosque

Panchkula: Alleging that the local mosque was being locked to prevent them from offering prayers,Muslims from Mandevar village in Yamunanagar district gathered at the DGP office in Sector 6,Panchkula seeking security for the mosque. In a memorandum,they claimed that the High Court had allowed them to worship at the mosque and so security should be provided to them.

Protester on hunger strike shifted to hospital

Sas Nagar: A protester sitting on hunger strike outside the Punjab School Education Board building was on Tuesday forcibly admitted to the Civil Hospital by Health Department officials who were accompanied by Police. Raj Krishan had been sitting on a hunger strike for the past eight days and his condition had deteriorated. Krishan along with other protesters have been demanding that the Punjab Government reinstate them. They had been employed as clerks by the Board in 2002 but were dismissed when a new government assumed power.
