Cop suspended after being found in inebriated condition
CHANDIGARH: A traffic cop,Head Constable Ram Kumar,was suspended on Thursday for being found in an inebriated condition on June 27 at the check post of Sector 35. Incidentally,the check post was put up to catch drunk drivers as part of the ongoing drive. So far seven cops have been suspended for being found inebriated. DSP (Traffic) Vijay Kumar suspended the head constable.
Pensioners block traffic on NH-22
PANCHKULA: About 50-70 pensioners blocked traffic on National Highway 22 on dividing road of Sector 4-12 for about two hours protesting against non-disbursal of pension. Kiran Devi,who had come to take her widow said that they were told to come on Thursday to collect their pension,but even after waiting for three hours,no official turned up. Radha Sharma complained that for the last four months she had not received her pension,though she was coming on designated days to the Municipal Councils office. Panchkula SDM Kulwant Kalson intervened and attempted to pacify the protesters and assured them that action would be taken against the erring officials.
Mango Mela to start from tomorrow
PANCHKULA: Haryana Tourism is all set to hold the 20th edition of its annual Mango Mela at Yadvindra Gardens,Pinjore,from July 2 to 3,where farmers will be encouraged to adopt the latest technologies to increase productivity and quality of their mangoes. Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Chhatar Singh will inaugurate the Mango Mela. The two-day festival has been jointly organised by Haryana Tourism and Department of Horticulture. Apart from showcasing various varieties of mangoes and providing an opportunity to the visitors to see and taste,this event will be a grand affair featuring an assortment of cultural activities. Dona Ganguli,wife of former captain of Indian cricket team,Saurabh Ganguli,will perform an Odyssi Dance during the evening cultural programme on July 3. Activities like rangoli competition,face painting contest,cultural programmes,painting,fancy dress,mehandi competition are planned. A national seminar is also being organised on mango cultivation on July 3 at Kisan Bhawan,Sector 14,Panchkula.
