Murder follow up: UT cops clueless
CHANDIGARH: A day after the murder of a security guard in Makhan Majra in Industrial Area,the Chandigarh Police is still clueless about the identity of the murderer(s). The police have questioned the employees working at the godown and labourers residing in the nearby area. A 55-year-old security guard was brutally killed while on duty on Saturday night. The victim,Prayag Raj Singh,was found lying in a pool of blood on his cot in the morning. Police suspect the murder to be the handiwork of persons with whom he was consuming liquor last night. Cash and mobile phone of the victim were also missing suggesting robbery by his killers.
SGPC criticises anti-party activities
Chandigarh: The incharge of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) election for Chandigarh unit of Shiromani Akali Dal Charanjeet Singh Villy Unit on Sunday condemned former SGPC members for their anti-party activities. Two former members of SGPC were denied ticket by the party this time. Villy alleged that the two were working against the present candidate Harjinder Kaur,who is a former Mayor and councillor of Municipal Corporation. A few days back the observer for the elections for the party Bubby Badal had warned any leader against anti-party activity. Meanwhile Harjinder Kaur continued with her campaign. She went to Sector 22 for nam simran programme and later to Sector 38. Campaigning was also held at the Gurdwara in Kajheri village.
Two booked for cheating
CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Police,on Sunday,booked two owners of a company Ultratech Fuel and Pollution Control operating from Sector 17 for allegedly duping a Ludhiana resident of Rs 5 lakhs. The duo took the money in lieu of a deal for selling their product. However,the product turned out to be ineffective,as claimed by the accused,in reducing fuel consumption as a result of which the dealer suffered loss. A case of cheating and breach of trust has been registered in Police station,Sector 17,Chandigarh.
Delhi-based travel agency fined
CHANDIGARH: The Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed Anuga Holidays,New Delhi,to refund Rs 40,000 to a city-resident for not guiding him properly regarding the documents to be submitted for his family tour abroad,due to which the visa application was rejected by the French embassy. It directed the travel agency to pay Rs 30,000 to the complainant for the harassment caused to him,and Rs 5,000 as litigation costs.
