Immigration firm owner surrenders

CHANDIGARH: The director of Healthyway Immigration Consultants,Amit Kakar,surrendered before a city court on Tuesday and was later sent to two-day police remand. Police had registered eight cases against the company for cheating,forgery and criminal conspiracy at Sector 36 police station and there were as many as twenty-eight complaints against the company that are under investigation. The company allegedly cheated people on the pretext of sending them abroad.

Freedom fighter pension enhanced

PANCHKULA: Haryana Assembly Deputy Speaker Akram Khan said pension for freedom fighters will be enhanced by Rs 4,000 per month to Rs 15,000. After unfurling the Tricolour at Independence Day function here on Monday,he said welfare policies meant for freedom fighters,ex-servicemen and their dependents in Haryana was the highest in the country. Khan said though Haryana was geographically a small state but it has made phenomenal progress in every walk of life.

One killed due to landslide in Solan

PARWANOO: A bus driver was killed late on Monday night in a landslide near Jogo on the way to Swarghat in Solan district. According to police,a private bus was going from Nalagarh to Swarghat at about 10:30 pm. But it had only bus driver and conductor. There was a small boulder on the road,so both got down to remove it. Due to rains throughout the day,landslide occurred at that moment and the bus along with driver Nitin Sharma were swept down the hill. However,the conductor managed to save himself.

Compensation for faded quilt cover

CHANDIGARH: THE dispute over a ‘quilt cotton cover’ priced at Rs 350,which faded after use,made a Sector 23 resident take a local trader to the consumer court. The resident has won the case,and UT Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum-II has directed the trader to pay Rs 1,500 to him as compensation. The decision was given by the Forum following a complaint filed by Rajnish Thakur. In his complaint,Thakur stated that he purchased a ‘quilt cotton cover’ from Shahil Handloom in Sector 22 in December 2010 for Rs 350. Thakur complained that after a single washing,the cover faded.

Court seeks replies over parking woes

Chandigarh: A lower court on Tuesday directed the Chandigarh home secretary,mayor and municipal commissioner to file their replies by September 12 to a petition filed by advocate Pankaj Chandgothia seeking solution to the paid parking chaos in the city. Chandgothia has also filed an application seeking interim relief that till the case is finally decided,the parking contractors should be asked to charge the parking fee at the exit point instead of entry points. The petitioner has also sought that the traffic police should not challan vehicles for wrong parking,till the parking problems are resolved.

Fraudster arrested from IGI Airport

Chandigarh: A proclaimed offender who was working as an account clerk in Haryana,Sanjay Chandel,was arrested from Indra Gandhi International,Airport New Delhi for cheating and forgery. Sanjay was found guilty of withdrawing government money worth lakhs of rupees by forging signatures of his senior. A case has been registered against him in the Sector 17 police station.

Man duped of Rs 50,000

Sas Nagar: A resident of Chandigarh has complained to the Phase 11 police station that two people duped him of Rs 50,000 on the pretext of selling him a car. Khushi Raj Kaushik,in his complaint to the police,said that two persons,one of whom introduced himself as Amandeep Singh,told him that they had a diesel-version Swift for sale. Kaushik fixed an appointment with the two and on seeing the car agreed to buy it after paying a token amount of Rs 50,000. Later he realised he had been duped as the car in contention had been stolen.
