UT excise dept asks defence institute for bar licence

The UT Excise and Taxation department has asked the authorities of the Defence Services Officers’ Institute (DSOI) to procure a license for running the bar. Sources in the department say that it had come to the notice of the department that the DSOI ,Sector 36 was running the bar without a license. Though no written orders have been issued by the department,the DSOI has been asked to comply with the prevalent laws. When contacted ADC M L Sharma,said,“Law is equal for everyone. The department is not concerned if they did not have a license in the past. But as long as I am holding the department,they will have to take a license to run the bar. However,when contacted,Brig M S Dullat (retd),president of DSOI said,“I am not aware of any such thing.” Sources say that the DSOI has closed the bar due to the ongoing issue and on last Saturday,they procured a special permission for a single day to run the bar.

Two held guilty for murder

Holding them guilty of murdering a local,a lower Court on Monday convicted two residents of Faida village near Sector 48,Chandigarh. Those held guilty of murder are,Jaspal Singh and Shiv Kumar. The incident took place September 29,2009. The duo had sprinkled kerosene oil on the body of Brij Lal,resident of the same village. Brij Lal had succumbed to his injuries on October 1,2009. According to the prosecution,both the accused were peeved over Brij Lal’s act of taking bath in their tubewell. The duo were irked over the fact that Brij Lal was bathing in front of their family members. A case was registered on the dying declaration of Brij Lal who stated that both the accused had set him on fire. Munni,Lal’s wife had turned hostile from her statement given to the Police.

BJP continues anti-graft campaign

Bharatiya Janata Party took out a Janjagran Padyatra in Sector 24 to raise awareness among the general public about the corruption,rising prices,black money and mal-administration of the Congress led central government. President of the BJP city unit,Sanjay Tandon said that the present Congress led UPA government is doing nothing to curb corruption and is trying to crush the nationwide demand of bringing back the black money lying in foreign banks.

Residents’ society protests road widening

Chandigarh Residents Social Welfare Federation,Sector 30 rued that the MC was installing paver blocks and widening roads without the consent of the area residents. The members of the federation stated that the residents are put through trouble because of widening of roads as the water pipes and the electricity cables get damaged.
