Kisan Swaraj Yatra reaches city today

The Kisan Swaraj Yatra will reach Chandigarh on Thursday. The aim of the yatra is to draw attention to the agricultural crisis in the country and call for a comprehensive new path for the Indian agriculture. The bus yatra had started from the Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram on October 2,and is passing through 20 states before reaching Rajghat in New Delhi on December 11. The KSY is organised by the all-India network of over 400 organisations under the aegis of the

Alliance for Sustainable and Holistic Agriculture. Organic farmers,environmental activists,writers and journalists,students,consumer right activists and scientists from across the India are a part of the journey.

PU clerk crushed to death by truck

A 35-year-old woman died when she was hit by a truck in Industrial Area on Wednesday evening. The victim,Pinkesh Gupta,was a resident of Panjab University. The deceased was working as a clerk in the university. The incident took place near Central Mall in Industrial Area around 4:30 pm. The victim was on her way back home on her scooter when she was hit by a rashly driven truck. Her scooter lost balance following which she victim suffered severe head injuries. She was rushed to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

The driver of the truck,Sunil Kumar,has been arrested in a case of causing death due to negligence under Section 3904 A of the IPC and the police have impounded the truck.

National award for PU teacher

Prof O P Katare,former chairperson of the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS),Panjab University,has recently been awarded Dr R K Upadhyaya National Teacher Excellence Award by IES group of Institutions,Bhopal,November 27 for his remarkable contributions in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Besides the citation and trophy,the award also carried a cash prize of Rs 21,000.
