Four get life term in murder case

Chandigarh: A local court of Chandigarh today awarded life imprisonment to four persons for murdering a local resident. The incident dates back to 2006 when a Janta Colony resident was assaulted by the four. Those awarded lifer are Ramaninder,Satbir,Bikram and Vikas,all residents of Janta Colony who had killed their neighbour Pal Singh. A penalty of Rs 5,000 has also been slapped on the four. On Friday,holding them guilty of murder the court had convicted the accused and deferred the quantum of sentence to today. As per the complainant,Ramphal,he was sitting on a cot outside his house when all the accused came there and started arguing them following which they started scuffle with him. Hearing the outcry Pal Singh had intervened and in process was injured. He had succumbed to the injuries after four days following which charges of murder was imposed against the accused. The Chandigarh Police had registered an FIR on July 5,2006 and had arrested the accused.

Yoga camp gets under way at Patiala

Patiala: A 14-day yoga camp started at Parbhat Parvana Trade Union Centre,Patiala,by the Central Sports Committee,State Bank of Patiala,Head Office,Patiala. The camp was inaugurated today by T Lokeshaiah,Chief General Manager of the bank. More than 50 officers/employees will take part in this camp which will conclude on December 12,2010. The camp is being conducted by C K Mishra,Ph D,Chief Yoga Coach of N I S,Patiala. Lokeshaiah,CGM,while addressing the gathering,told the importance of Yoga in the present modern life.

252 examined at health camp

Ambala: As many as 252 persons were examined at a diabetic camp organised by the All-India Indian Medicine Graduates Association (AIIMGA) at Ambala today. A team of doctors led by Dr Ashwini Sharma examined the patients and found that there was an increase of 32 to 40 per cent against 20 percent of symptoms of diabetics among the residents of the village this year.

BJP holds health camp at Sector-18 temple,600 turn up

Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Party Pharmaceutical Cell and Antyodaya Project organized a free medical camp at Sri Radha Krishna Mandir,Sector 18. As many as 600 patients were given free medical consultation,checkup and medicines.

The camp was inaugurated by Manohar Lal Khattar,National Convener of Antyodaya Project. President of the city unit of BJP Sanjay Tandon and former Union Minister Harmohan Dhawan were also present on the occasion. While addressing the inaugural function Khattar said that the party is engaged in several social activities throughout the country so as to reach all sections and benefit them. In the evening an awareness camp was organized at Bapu Dham Colony. Harmohan Dhawan gave tips to the residents of the area to remain healthy just by following the diet chart.

Kaushik is Air Officer Commanding at Air Force Station in Ambala

Ambala: Air Commodore P N Kaushik took over as the Air Officer Commanding (AOC),Air Force Station,Ambala,at a ceremonial parade held at the Ambala Air Force Station from Air Commodore Anil Khosla today. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy,Air Commodore Kaushik was commissioned in the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force on June 4,1982. He has flown over 4000 hours on various types of fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force. He is a qualified pilot attack instructor and qualified flying instructor. In his 28 years of career,the Air Commodore has held numerous important staff and field appointments and commanded a fighter squadron. He has also held the appointment of a Chief Operation Officer of an operational base. Ranjini Kaushik also took over as the President of the Air Force Wives’ Welfare Association,Ambala from Deepshikha Khosla.

Chandigarh Police helplines for hospitality industry employees

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police have given two helplines to the hotels and restaurant owners in the city to circulate among their employees,who return home late in the night. Chandigarh Hospitality Association (CHA) Secretary Ankit Gupta said since employees of the industry returned home late in the night,they were the targets for miscreants. Gupta said that in this regard,the association held a meeting with Chandigarh Police and requested them to take additional measures for the protection of these employees. Gupta said that following their request,the police have decided to increase the presence of PCR vehicles in the areas where they were frequently targeted. The two emergency numbers given to them are 0172-2745609 and 9465121000,to dial in case of need.
