Court grants bail to member of Nishant Singh gang

Panchkula: As a prime witness in a car snatching case of July 2010 turned hostile,Gurvinder Singh,allegedly belonging to Nishant Singh gang received bail. The police opposed the bail and informed that the Skoda car was snatched at gunpoint near Herbal park of Sector 26 at about 9 am. Preet and his friend Bajaj were in Sector 26 when a verna car came and stopped near the Skoda. As per his complaint,two Sikh youths came out. One of them pointed a gun and snatched the keys. They also broke their mobile phone and fled. Bajaj refused to identify Gurvinder Singh,who was arrested on August 11,2010. The challan in the case was produced on October 29,2010.

Police solve 4 cases of snatching with arrest of gang

Sas Nagar: The gang members arrested by the Kharar Police on Monday have confessed to four cases of looting that took place in the area this year. The gang of robbers were arrested while they were planning a robbery. The Kharar police had arrested six persons with two unauthorised country made pistols and cartridges. The police also registered recovered two stolen bikes from the accused. Ravinder and Rajinder,two of the arrested,have confessed to three cases of snatchings involving over Rs 2.85 lakh. They had undertaken the snatchings in Kharar and adjoining areas. The modus operandi of the gang was to do a recce of banks and snatch the money from anyone who came out of the bank after withdrawing money.

Justice Goel to move to Guwahati HC

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday received notification that Acting Chief Justice A K Goel will join Guwahati High Court as a puisine judge before being made the chief justice. The president has cleared the name of Justice Goel.

Transport body issues 501 challans in August

Chandigarh: State Transport Authority issued 501 challans for a number of offences in the month of August. These included unauthorised plying of vehicles,overloading and incomplete documents. As many as 75 vehicles were impounded. The maximum challans – 149 – were against auto-drivers,followed by truck drivers.

Civic body removes 11 dumped cars

Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation lifted 11 vehicles dumped on municipal land from Motor Market,Sector 28 on Wednesday and issued 11 challans to the defaulters. The anti-encroachment drive was carried out peacefully under the orders of Additional Commissioner Lalit Siwachor.
