SGPC polls affecting MC work: Mayor
Chandigarh: Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh raised the issue of work in the Municipal Corporation getting affected due to the code of conduct for the elections of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. In a coordination committee meeting with the UT Administration,the Mayor stated that while the tenders of the Administration as well as Punjab and Haryana were being floated this was not being done for the civic body. It was decided that Municipal Corporation would be giving a presentation about the Underground Reservoirs to the UT Adviser. The construction of e-sampark centres and sehaj safai kendras was also discussed.
Two cases of theft in Mohali
Sas Nagar: Two cases of theft were reported from Mohali on Tuesday. In the first one,Ashish Sharma,a resident of Sector 68,had complained to the Mattaur police that on Sunday at 8.30 pm he had gone to Phase 7 market and when he returned he found the windscreen of his car had been broken. A laptop,ladies purse containing gold earrings and ring,mobile phone and Pan card were stolen from the car. In another incident,thieves broke into a house in Phase 3b1 and decamped with Rs. 25,000 cash,gold jewellery and a digital camera. Sanjay Pandita,owner of the house told the police on Saturday he had gone to Chandigarh with his family. When they returned the found the house had been broken into and things stolen.
PGIs new financial advisor joins duty
Chandigarh: The newly appointed Financial Advisor of PGIMER,Sushil Thakur,joined today. An officer of Indian Audit and Accounts Service from Mumbai,Sushils name was cleared about a fortnight ago. He will hold the post of new Financial Advisor and Chief Account Officer of the PGI. Before his present appointment,he was serving as the director of commercial audit at ONGC,Mumbai. His predecessor Ritu Dhillons tenure came to an end in April this year. Since then,Sandeep Lal,an officer from Delhis All India Institute of Medical Sciences was given the additional charge.
50-year-old man murdered
Sas Nagar: The body of a 50-year-old Nayagaon property dealer was found in a pool of blood in his house by the woman who lived with him on Tuesday. The victim,Chote Lal had been stabbed several times with a knife by unidentified people,the police said. Lal,a native of Amethi,had been staying in Nayagaon for over 20 years. The incident took place between 12 and 1pm. No article has reported to have been missing from the house. We have sent the body for post-mortem, said Inspector Shyam Sunder.
Estate Office seals industrial plot
Chandigarh: A team from the UT Estate Office on Tuesday sealed an SCO in Sector 26 and an industrial plot in Industrial Area,Phase II,that had violated building rules. According to Ravinder Sharma,Inspector,Misuse and Enforcement,a notice had been served to the owner of the SCO for selling animal feed and displaying articles for sale on the SCO first floor. The industrial plot,number 8 in Phase II was also sealed as the owner had been illegally using a 300 square feet room to sell hardware parts.
Traffic workshop held
Chandigarh: City Traffic Police organised a road safety exhibition-cum-workshop at the Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 16 on Tuesday. More than 300 students of the school participated in the road safety programme with nearly 2000 pamphlets on road safety distributed to them.
CICSE launches northern schools association
Chandigarh: Registering a total of 144 schools across the northern region this year,the Council for Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (CICSE) today launched its Association of Schools for Indian School Certficate (ASISC) Northern region. The council elected eleven key members including the President and Vice-president for the association here today. Chief Executive Officer and officiating Secretary for CICSE,Gerry Arathoon and Chairman of the council Jose Aikara will address the principals of all the 144 schools in Punjab,Haryana,Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh,including the elected members of the association on September 7 at St Stephens school Sector 45.
