PGI employees go on 5-hour strike

Chandigarh: Over 250 contractual employees of PGI,on Thursday went on strike for over five hours protesting against the delay in payment of their salaries. Class IV workers including safai karamcharis and ward boys alleged that the contractor had till date not paid them their salaries for this month. The strike was called off after a senior employee of the contractor distributed their salaries.

GMADA summons builder for violation

S A S NAGAR: Greater Mohali Area Development Authority has summoned Chandigarh Builders and Promoters Limited for violating terms and conditions of the Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Act (PAPRA). The builder had been issued a license in 2000 by the Panjab Urban Area Development Authority(PUDA),for setting up a colony under the name ‘Chandigarh Apartments’. The license expired on July 20,2003 and despite being served several notices the promoter had failed to get it renewed.

Trio arrested for sexual harassment

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh police has arrested three persons who were allegedly involved in sexual harassment of school girls. Police said Prince,Vivek and Pankaj Kumar all resident of Sector 45 were arrested by the police near government senior secondary School,Sector 45 on Wednesday. “We have registered a case against the three accused,” a police officer said. All three were later bailed out by the court

Pinjore councillor dies; kin allege negligence

Panchkula: Pinjore councillor Surjeet Singh died at Sector 14 based private hospital. Family members alleged that he died due to medical negligence of doctors of Raffles Hospital. Kaka Singh,brother of the deceased,said,“ We have spent Rs 14 lakh on the medical expenses. We had requested them to discharge the patient as we were not satisfied with their services.” Hospital authorities denied any medical negligence.

Woman robbed on pretext of offering lift

S A S NAGAR: A man and his wife were robbed by unidentified people on the pretext of giving them a lift in their car. According to the complainant Badri Parkash along with his wife Venna Rani were waiting to catch an auto rickshaw when a car with three women and a male driver offered them a lift. They accepted the offer,but were made to get out after only 200 metres. Venna on getting down realised that her two gold bangles had been stolen.

Chandigarh police bust music pirates

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Police raided six shops in the city and seized articles used in piracy such as PCs,card readers,and DVD writers. Police also arrested two accused identified as Hardeep Singh and Rohit Narang,who have been sent to judicial custody for 15 days.
