Lok Adalat meets
CHANDIGARH: A mobile Lok Adalat held at Dadu Majra Colony in Chandigarh on Sunday helped solving 12 cases of petty crimes. Of the 25 cases of Dadu Majra Colony,12 were settled on the spot. Cases pertained to Excise Act,Gambling Act and other petty offences, said Gurpartap Singh,Civil Judge (Junior Division) and also Judicial Magistrate of Chandigarh. The mobile Lok Adalat will be held regularly in pockets of the city,especially villages and colonies,to provide justice to those who are unable to come to court because of their socio-economic conditions as well as to provide on the spot justice at ones doorstep.
Two drown
Ambala: Two students from Chandigarh are believed to have drowned in Narwana Branch of Bhakra Canal while taking a bath on Sunday. They were part of a group of five students who had come for sightseeing. Meanwhile,a body was found on Mohri-Landha Road on Saturday night. The body has been identified as of Ram Kumar (22),a barber.
4 die in accidents
Ambala: Four persons were killed in separate accidents in Ambala in the last 24 hours. Two of them,identified as Kuldip and Dharampal,died in a road accident. The duo were jogging on Naraingarh-Sadhaura road near Naraingarh when a speeding vehicle ran over them. In another case,an elderly woman was hit by a speeding vehicle near Industrial area Ambala Cantonment on Saturday night.
Transporter booked
MOHALI: A transport company in Dera Bassi was booked for causing a loss of Rs 35 lakh to a drug manufacturer,the police said. Sanjeev Grover of Sundra village told the police that seals of the containers of chemical powder,which were ferried by the transport company,were found broken and chemical worth Rs 35 lakh was found missing.
