Free PU entrance exam for visually challenged

In response to protests against the high cost of entrance examination forms,Panjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Prof R C Sobti announced on Tuesday that the university would not charge admission fees for visually challenged students. Confirming this,Dean Student Welfare Prof Naval Kishore said that the move has been taken to lessen the burden on visually challenged students who want to take admission to the university. Recently,there were several protests by various student orgainsations against the high entrance examination fee,which is Rs 1,600 and Rs 1,800 for OCET and CET forms respectively.

PGI unions plan stir on Talwar’s last day

The PGI Employees’ Union and five other affiliated unions,including the PGI Residents Association,PGI OT Technicians’ Association and PGI Nursing Staff Association,came together on Tuesday and decided to hold a protest against outgoing Director Dr K K Talwar on the day he demits office,April 30. The members of the these unions alleged that the recent remark by Dr Talwar stating that “there is no place for unions in PGI” is an infringement of their fundamental rights and against the spirit of democracy. They stated that they would hold the protest on the day he exits to display their resentment against his “undemocratic comment”.
