MCM girl to compete at international Yoga meets in Argentina,Thailand
Chandigarh:
Keerti of MCM College for Women,Sector 36,has been selected for the World Yoga Championship to be held in Argentina and the Asian Yoga Championship to be held in Pattaya (Thailand) in 2011. Six times national Champion,Keerti won first position in Yoga World Championship held in Portugal,Europe. In 2005,she won silver medal in the World Championship held in Talkatora Stadium,Delhi. For her outstanding accomplishments,she has been felicitated by the Panchkula deputy commissioner on four consecutive Republic Day functions.

Fortis doctor presents paper at AIIMS international surgeons’ meet
Chandigarh:
A senior consultant laparoscopic surgeon in Fortis Hospital,Mohali,Dr Pankaj Garg delivered a lecture at the recently concluded conference of Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) held at AIIMS,New Delhi. More than 8,000 surgeons from India,USA,UK,France and other nations participated in the conference held from December 15 to 20. Dr Garg spoke on “Minimal Invasive techniques to treat Anal Fistula and Piles”. One of the four scientific papers presented by Dr Garg and his team was selected for award presentation in the best paper category. This paper was on the “Stapler Technique- a painless procedure to cure piles”.

Silver jubilee alumni reunion at UBS on Dec 24
Chandigarh:
The University Business School (UBS) of Panjab University will organise “Silver Jubilee Alumni Reunion-2010” on December 24 at the English auditorium on the campus. The event will see the alumni of 1985 batch reunite with the department and interact with present students.

2 minibuses donated to PGI
Chandigarh:
The chairman and managing director of pharma company Nectar Lifesciences Limited,Sanjiv Goyal,donated two 13-seater minibuses to PGI for patient care. The two vehicles will be used as shuttle services inside the PGI campus. The keys were handed over to PGI Director Prof K K Talwar,who thanked Goyal for the gesture. Those present on the occasion included Medical Superintendent Prof A K Gupta,Deputy Director,Administration,Prof Surjit Singh,Financial Adviser Ritu Dhillon and Assistant Professor,Hospital Administration,Dr Ashok Kumar.

Anti-encroachment drive in Motor Market
Chandigarh:
An anti-encroachment drive was carried out by the enforcement wing of Municipal Corporation in Motor Market,Sector 48,on Tuesday. As many as 32 vehicles parked on municipal land,causing damage to it and inconvenience to the public,were removed. The drive was carried out under the supervision of enforcement inspectors K D Sharma and Kashmira Singh.

Christmas with Raffles Millennium
Chandigarh:
Raffles Millennium International celebrated Christmas with underprivileged children at the institute’s Chandigarh campus on Tuesday. It organised a Christmas tree decoration competition for all children,who were divided into small groups and provided with decoration material. The group that won was given a special prize by the campus director Sim Keng Lim.

PU professor accorded ‘Fellow AMI’
Chandigarh:
Dr. Sanjay Chhibber,a senior professor in the Department of Microbiology,Panjab University,has been accorded the honour of ‘Fellow AMI’ by the Association of Microbiologists of India. The felicitation ceremony was held during the 51st Annual Conference of AMI at Birla Institute of Technology,Mesra,Ranchi,from December 14 to 17. This recognition is given to teachers or scientists for their significant scientific contribution in the field of microbiology.

Haryana powermen protest in Ambala
Ambala:
Agitated employees and workmen from the Haryana Bijli Nigam held a demonstration in front of the corporation’s divisional office in Ambala Cantonment,in support of their demands on Tuesday. The demonstrators staged a dharna to express resentment against the authorities for not acceding to their demands to fill vacant posts,remove anomalies in revised pay scales and increase their dearness allowance. Union state secretary Devi Prasad Bhatt said the agitation would continue till the demands were accepted.
