Two dead in separate road accidents in Ambala
Ambala:
Two persons including a woman were killed and two injured in different two road accidents at Ambala and Nariangarh in this district on Wednesday. Rekha,who was riding on pillion on a bike being driven by Gaurav,was killed when they were hit by a truck near gurdwara Manji Sahib in Ambala. Gaurav was seriously injured and was rushed to the civil hospital. In another incident,biker Anwar (30) was killed and his associate Rajinder on pillion was seriously injured when their vehicle was hit by a speeding canter on Naraingarh-Chandigarh road near Naringarh. The injured Rajinder was referred to the PGI Chandigarh in a serious condition.

Meanwhile,a youth Jaswinder Singh resident of village Kulharpur Naraingarh died after he consumed some poisonous substance last night.

Snatchers enter house,pull away gold chain of senior citizen
Chandigarh:
Snatchers pulled away a gold chain from a senior citizen as she was basking in the sun in the verandah of her house here today. The victim,Krishna Kataria (70),lost her 20 gms gold chain to the snatchers who entered her house and pulled her chain. A case of snatching has been registered in the Sector-17 police station. The incident took place at around noon when Krishna was sitting with her granddaughter. She told the police that two helmet wearing youths stopped outside her house and with the bike on ignition,the pillion rider entered the house with his helmet in hand. Krishna Kataria took the two to be the friends of her tenants who were staying on the first floor of her house. The youth then approached her and as she turned,he pulled her chain and fled on the bike with his accomplice.

‘Remove SGPC president for anti-Sikh activities’
Ambala:
Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (Adhoc) at a meeting held at its headquarters Dosarka (Ambala) demanded that the SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar should be removed from the post of president because of his anti-Sikh activities. The meeting which was chaired by HSGPC President Jagdish Singh Jhinda expressed concern that Makkar was not allowing the Sikhs of Haryana to recite Sukhmani Sahib in gurudwara under the control of SGPC. It alleged that he was behaving like a dictator to deal with devotees who come to Sikh shrines to pay obeisance. The meeting through a resolution urged the Akal Takhat that Makkar should be called there and should be declared Tankhayia. The meeting regretted that the members of HSGPC including Jhinda had decided to recite Sukhmani Sahib at Kurukshetra gurudwara but they were not allowed to do so by Makkar who was camping there during that day. It was decided that the recitation would be made in January next year and its date would be decided in its meeting to be held on December 23.

SBoP Ladies Club donates equipment to school
Patiala:
State Bank of Patiala,Ladies Club,has donated a Public Address System to Jain Girls High School,Gur Mandi. Prema Nayer,President of SBP Ladies Club,graced the occasion alongwith other members of the club. The school is being run on donations contributed by the donors or other social organization active in this field for the uplift of poor & down trodden students of the society.

Three trucks seized near Ambala
Ambala:
Three overloaded trucks with sand and bajri were impounded by the police party led by Superintendent of Police Shashank Anand at the Saha Chowk on the Ambala-Dehradun National Highway on Tuesday night. The crews of all the three trucks were challaned nder special drive ‘Save Public Property.’ Three defaulting drivers were from Ajmer Rajasthan and Amritsar Punjab. The SP said that overloaded trucks were not only causing traffic problems but also damaged public property. Accidents are generally held since there remained no space to cross overloaded trucks. He said that he had instructed all the SHOs to ascertain that such vehicles were not allowed to pass through their respective PS areas by taking strict action against the defaulters.

Seminar on Persian held at Patiala
Patiala:
“Persian has always been one of the most powerful and convenient languages for conveying the message of spirituality,secularism and humanism even as Punjabi and Persian languages have many elements in common.” This was stated by Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh while presiding over a national seminar on “Historical,Cultural,Linguistic and Literary Relations Between Persian and Punjabi,” organised by the University’s Nawab Sher Mohammad Khan Institute at Malerkotla. He advocated the cause of exploring the symbiotic relationship between the two languages for further strengthening the cultural bondage between the two communities. Naz Bharti,Principal D.D. Bhatti,M. Iqbal and Saleem Zubairi and Tariq Kifaytullah participated in a panel discussion delving on various aspects of the theme of the seminar.

UGC NET on December 26
Patiala:
Punjabi University,Patiala,is conducting the UGC’s National Entrance Test (NET) on December 26,2010,as one of the examination centres in the country. According to Devinder Singh,Coordinator of the Centre,roll numbers to all the eligible candidates,who have opted Punjabi University as their centre of examination,have been dispatched. In case candidates,who do not receive their roll numbers by December 12 should contact the UGC-NET Cell of the University personally. Such students,he said,should bring two attested photographs alongwith their roll number slips.

Workshop on endo-urology held
Ambala:
‘One Day Live Operative Workshop’ on Endo-Urology and Laser Prostatectomy was held of the MM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research,Mullana 20 m from here on Wednesday. Principal of MMIMSR,Dr S B Siwach while inaugurating the workshop said that the workshop was unique in itself because latest techniques and instruments like laser therapy had been used which was going to be useful to the post-graduate students. A national-level operative team of doctors from Delhi including Dr S K Pal and Dr S P Yadav demonstrated the renal stone surgery with Endo-urology technique whereas Dr GS Kochar performed prostate surgery with the laser technique. The organizing secretary of the committee,Dr Sunder Goyal said this kind of live operative workshop was knowledge enhancing session for the students and the staff as well. He said it was an interactive session with the eminent experts in the field of urology.
