Couple booked for cheating colleague
Mohali: A couple of Sector 38-D,Chandigarh,Anila Pannu and her husband Narinder More were booked on the charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy for allegedly duping Anila’s colleague Rajiv Kumar of Memham village in Rohtak of Rs 7 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad,the police said here today.
In his complaint to the SSP,who ordered registration of the case for investigation and necessary action thereon,Kumar submitted that he used to work with Anila at a private company,from where he later quit the job,following which she promised him to migrate to Canada. As per the agreement,the couple demanded Rs 15 lakh from me for sending me to Canada and I paid Rs 7 lakh as advance payment but despite that I was neither sent abroad nor my money was returned back, he alleged.
The police have registered a case under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC against the accused couple. However,no arrest was confirmed as yet.
Changing deflated tyre,truck cleaner crushed to death
Mohali: A truck cleaner Gurmail Singh of Jhonewal village near Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur was crushed to death by a recklessly driven scooter on Mohali-Kharar busy stretch of National Highway-21 near Desumajra village when he was changing a deflated tyre of the truck. Truck driver Gurmail Chand of Manimajra (UT) told the police that as Gurmail Singh was replacing a flat truck tyre,a speeding scooter hit him and sped away. The seriously injured victim was rushed to Chandigarh PGIMER,where he was declared dead on arrival. The police have booked the absconding scooterist for causing death by rash and negligent driving.
Two quintals of spurious khoya seized
Chandigarh: The UT police in a joint operation with the Health department seized two quintals of khoya from a vehicle belonging to a Panipat resident today. The police initiated legal proceedings against Shokat Ali of district Panipat after adulterated khoya was seized near the roundabout of Sector 29-31 when it was being taken in a Punto car. Shokat Ali is an employee with Haryana Mewa Bhandar — dairy in Panipat and supplies milk products in Haryana,Punjab and Chandigarh. Ali was returning after supplying the food material to Chaudhary Dairy in Bapu Dham Colony in Sector 26 when he was nabbed. Around two quintals khoya has been confiscated and it would be destroyed after the arrival of sample’s results. A DDR was registered at the Sector-31 police station.
Josan to continue as DAV principal
Chandigarh: DR B C Josan will continue as the Principal,DAV College,Sector 10,Chandigarh till November 15 as the Panjab University today sought time to respond to a petition filed by the Governing Body seeking quashing of an order dated September 20 by the Administration wherein it had quashed the suspension of Dr B C Josan. The case was simply deferred to November 15. Mincing no words the Chandigarh Administration,in its strongly worded reply,had taken a dig at the Governing body DAV College .
Raid in Sector 22; one lakh CDs confiscated
Chandigarh: The UT police on Tuesday arrested Harjinder Singh,a resident of Sector 37 here,and claimed to have seized pirated audio and video music compact discs from his residence and shop in Sector 22. Over 1 lakh pirated CDs have been seized following the raid at his godown by the police.
