Army officer working with NSG arrested for thrashing cop on duty

Nirvair told Newsline, “He was travelling to city in a private vehicle and did not tell who he was. He was accompanied by his driver. I asked for the car documents while he asked which offence he had committed. I told him that drivers of all the vehicles with CH-01-AD series who do not have HSRPs are being challaned. At first he argued with me, then he punched me on my right eye and snatched my challan book. After this, fellow constables called the police control room.”

Pandher then tore off three challans from Nirvair’s challan book, grabbed Narviar’s collar and thrashed him again. “The accused punched the cop on his face and chest,” said the Sector 31 SHO Bhupinder Singh.

DSP (Traffic) Rajiv Ambasta said, “The accused was stopped because his vehicle did not have an appropriate registration plate. After he manhandled the cop, the SHO concerned booked him.”

Lt Col Pandher was driving a Chevrolet Cruze and was coming to Chandigarh from Gurgaon. He is posted on the NSG campus, Manesar. He was coming to the city to meet someone in connection with a court case.

The head constable was made to undergo a medical examination at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. Assistant Superintendent of Police (South) Navdeep Singh Brar said that the head constable had suffered many abrasions. His uniform and challan book were torn. “He will be produced in the court tomorrow,” said the ASP.
