(File Photo)Armed youths have attacked a grocery store in Sector 89-D, Mohali, late at night, leaving a store employee seriously injured. The store owner was also assaulted when he tried to intervene. Police have registered a case against eight unidentified youths and launched an investigation.
According to the victim, Sahil Kumar (19), a resident of Jagraon, presently staying in Sector 89-D, Mohali, he works at 24×7 Store, SCO-39. He stated that on the night of January 2, around 12:15 am, two youths were creating a ruckus outside the store. “When I asked them to move aside, they started abusing me,” Sahil told the police.
He alleged that one of the youths made a phone call and summoned his associates. Shortly thereafter, six youths arrived in a white Bolero vehicle without a registration number, all carrying weapons.
“They surrounded me and attacked me with iron weapons, hitting me on the head. They also snatched my wallet containing about Rs 2,000 in cash and my Aadhaar card,” the victim said.
When the store owner, Gagandeep Singh, tried to rescue him, the attackers allegedly assaulted him as well. On hearing the commotion, nearby residents gathered at the spot, after which the assailants threatened to kill the victims and fled.
The injured employee was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Phase-6, Mohali, for treatment.
Based on the victim’s statement and medical report, Sohana police registered a case under Sections 115(2), 126(2), 351(2), 304, 190 and 191(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against eight unidentified accused.
