Ambala farmland flooded by rivulet

The near-extinct seasonal rivulet,Naqti Nadi,suddenly started flowing in spate due to continuous rains in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh in the past few days.

The rivulet,which has lost its existence following large- scale mining and encroachments from Sadhaura to Mullana area under Barara sub division,started overflowing last week submerging paddy and sugarcane fields in Sehla village.

But the flood water receded quickly giving relief to farmers.

The farmers got worried when the Nadi changed its course at Sehla and started soil erosion. The result was that while receding,it left sand that littered the fields where crops were grown causing huge losses to them. Their crops were perished under cover of sand as well flood water.

With second round of rains in mountains,the Naqti Nadi once again started overflowing flooding hundreds of acres of land. Its water not only submerged crops but fear stalked over its waters entering the village.

In the view of the serious situation,local MLA Rajbir Singh visited the spot who had promised to take up the issue with authorities concerned.
