Conquer the corporate world through wellness

IT does not matter how much a company invests in equipment,inventory and infrastructure,employees are its greatest asset. This may direct new-age corporates towards corporate wellness needs especially in times when the financial earthquake is shaking the global economy and the concept,“survival of the fittest” deserves more attention. The present crisis is adding to the previously alarming incidences of corporate health problems like obesity,hypertension,diabetes,musculoskeletal disorders and stress ailments. To assure your berth in the future corporate space,there is a wellness triad that consists of physical fitness,nutritional balance and a well-developed Emotional Intelligence (EQ)

Though it is not a prerequisite to become a fitness freak,but a nominal physical activity with surely go a long way in providing sound basis of a stable,corporate future. This means devoting 30 minutes of moderate intensity workout at least,five days a week. You can choose from a host of activities like brisk walking,jogging,cycling,swimming etc. Keep the first and last five minutes of the workout slow. Always remember that the amount of mental challenge you can tolerate will depend on your fitness capabilities.

The next in pipeline is nutrition. A balanced diet,adequate fluid intake and maintaining input/output calorie balance is the mantra. But,growing evidence shows that most of us take our food habits for granted and lack even the basic knowledge about our energy requirements. This has created many lifestyle related disorders like obesity,dyslipidemia and various nutritional deficiencies. A humble advice is to consult a dietician and know your personal nutritional requirements and abide by it.

The most important role in making your corporate journey successful will be played by your Emotional Intelligence or EQ. People with a high EQ are happier,healthier and more successful in their relationships. It is different from IQ,which is more of an academic interest and genetically predetermined. EQ refers to our emotional management skills,which enable us to balance emotion and reason so as to maximize our long-term success. It consists of self-awareness,self-regulation and motivation. Recognizing and evaluating one’s emotions is part of self-awareness. The qualities of trustworthiness,adaptability and innovation should be thoroughly worked upon to imbibe the quality of self-regulation. Motivation means aiming towards excellence and striving to achieve it. Always remember,no force is as strong as that of a person,determined to change. Go ahead,conquer this corporate world!
