It’s Chandigarhs annual brush with high fashion and this years edition of the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour 2013,which rolled out on the weekend, saw four designers, each of whom presented a collection that was high on glamour. The first day of the showcase held on the sprawling lawns of Hotel Mountview on Saturday saw designers Neeta Lulla, and Falguni and Shane Peacock showcase their take on evening wear. Chandigarh, remarked Lulla, has a special place for her, having opened a previous edition of the tour. Inspired by the fashion of the 20s and 30s,Lullas collection had an unmistakable vintage feel to it. Flapper dresses, lots of beadwork, shimmering sequins and a muted colour palette is what the designers collection highlighted. The collection also saw the designer draw references from the sari drape. The collection is essentially cocktail wear and the styling is very contemporary and the draping is inspired by the sari, said Lulla, who got actor Neha Dhupia as the showstopper.
Designer couple Falguni and Shane Peacock brought in an extended version of their Spring-Summer 2014 collection showcased at the recently concluded New York Fashion Week. We are always a part of the bridal week in India and wanted to showcase our international line this time around, said Falguni Peacock. Calling it Robotic Chic, the evening wear collection had an edginess that is their signature style. The collection comprised laser cut-outs on mesh dresses, elements of punk-meets-gothic (read a dark colour palette) along with feathers, sequins and sheer floral combinations.
Gautam and Ayushmaan Khurrana, who wore coordinated outfits.
Bringing the Chandigarh leg of the fashion tour to a bright close was designer Wendell Rodricks with his collection Red,Haute and Blue. Inspired by a musical tribute to American composer and songwriter Cole Porter, done by musicians Iggy Pop and Blondie, the collection played up vibrant colours in a youthful way. Bright neon green, peacock blue and hot pink found their way in to flirty dresses and tunics with off-shoulders. The collection,in Wendells signature style, kept away from embellishments and the bold colours and draping did all the talking. Adding an element of drama,Wendells show also saw well-known choreographer Sandip Soparrkar present a dance sequence, ably supported by wife
Jesse Randhawa.
