All That Bling

Bashes,parties,weddings and cocktails — the air is rife with glittering soirees and festive celebrations. “I thought this was just the right time to have this exhibition,” says city-based designer and entrepreneur,Rashmi Bindra,who is holding a two-day designer fare titled Glitz & Glamour at the Taj Chandigarh,starting Saturday. “It’s the wedding season,plus the NRIs are here to spend their holidays,” says Bindra.

The collections include those by famous designers and labels such as Abdul Haldar,Karishma Singh’s traditional Rajasthani ensemble,Ramhas Riayat by Huma Nasr,Ritu Pande’s global designs,Kanelle’s everyday fashion,Divya A Bhasin’s ‘talking’ stones and royal jewellery from Patiala Jagdish Jewellers.

“Apart from clothes,there will be art,home décor items,holiday packages and wedding planners,” adds Bindra,who is also going to showcase her hand-painted lehanga cholis. “When it comes to weddings,Punjabis are willing to shell out whatever a particular ensemble may cost,” says Bindra,adding that lately,there has been a huge demand for cocktail wear in the region.

The two are organising Chandigarh Couture Fashion Show on December 9,where many designers will showcase their creations,including Delhi-based designers Neelam Gupta and Neharika,and Gunjan Nagpal,who runs Aura Fashion Studio in Sector 9.

While Gupta will bring in her designer khadi collection,Neharika and Nagpal are working on ethnic wear for the wedding season. “There is so much happening for the bride but others feel neglected when it comes to designer options,” says Nagpal,who is ready with anarkalis,shararas and lehanga saris in bright colours.
