Alarming rise in satellite city’s crime graph

A day after a robbery attempt at the Panchkula main post office,police found the body of Harjinder Singh,a watchman at the same post office,from a secluded area in Sector 26. Harjinder was missing since the post office was discovered ransacked and the police,who suspected him to be behind the failed robbery,were looking for him. Progress: Police clueless,no breakthrough.

January 4

In yet another case of attempt of robbery,unidentified youths tried to snatch the bag from a Chandigarh-based businessman and his son,injuring one of them in the process. The bag was said to be full of cash. Progress: Police claim it has some vital clues. No breakthrough yet.

January 7

Four members of a family and their driver were allegedly drugged by their cook,employed only three days before the incident. Rakesh Kapil,wife Tripta Kapil,daughter Abhilasha (17) and son Abhishek (15),along with their driver Ram Bahadur,were admitted in the General Hospital in Sector 6 in an unconscious state. Deepak,the domestic help from Nepal,is still missing. He is said to have decamped with valuables and mobile phones of the family members. Progress: Police interrogated Bahadur on whose recommendation the accused was employed by the family. No breakthrough yet,no recoveries.

January 16

A vigilant old couple in Sector 7 successfully prevented a robbery at their residence. On the intervening night of January 16 and 17,thieves entered their house but the old couple used their wits,scared the thieves who fled the spot without taking anything. The episode raised questions on the security of the elderly in Panchkula. Progress: The couple claims that no police officer from the Panchkula Senior Citizen Cell ever visited. No arrest.

January 22

A gang of four people drugged two employees of an Amritsar-based jewellery shop and robbed them of gold ornaments worth around Rs 30 lakh in AWHO society of Sector 20. The bag containing 128 bangles and eight bracelets,weighing around 2.3 kg,was sent to one Ashish as he was reportedly opening a jewellery showroom in Chandigarh. Progress: Police released sketch of the accused on the basis of the statements given by the victims. No breakthrough.

Talking to Newsline,DSP Varider Singh said investigations in all the cases were on and that breakthroughs will be made soon.
