At 17,Aditya looked thrice his age
It was so embarrassing when people my age would address me as bhaiya or sir. I would play, talk and feel like them, but look much older. My entire focus was on my face and I lacked confidence and self-esteem, 17-year-old Aditya Sharma has been suffering from a rare ageing disease,Cutis Laxa which means loose skin. Dr K M Kapoor,Senior Consultant,Department of Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery,Fortis Hospital has done a face and neck lift surgery, plus given him Botox injections and facial fillers to give Aditya a brand-new look. It was a five-hour surgery and Aditya is probably the youngest person in the country to undergo this surgery, which is usually performed on those above 50, added Dr Kapoor, presenting some before and after pictures of Aditya. Cutis Laxa is an inherited disease and according to Adityas father S K Sharma,it runs in the family. I too have this problem, but was never treated and there are many other cases in my family, but I wanted Aditya to lead a normal life as this disease can really play havoc with ones confidence and emotions, discussed Sharma. A chance visit to Fortis for his mothers treatment got Aditya,a BA-I student of GC-46 take counselling from Dr Kapoor and then the surgery, which cost them half the amount, courtesy Allergan. Though the disease doesnt affect the internal organs, the ageing affect is tremendous,in Cutis Laxa, elastin fibres which give elasticity the skin are malformed and this leads to lax skin, crows feet. Aditya will probably require surgery again in about seven years and in the longer run gene therapy will probably have solutions for these diseases, said Dr Kapoor.
As for Aditya, hes surprised many with his new look and feels at ease with people his age,I rested for a month and so many people could not recognize me. It feels so good, smiles the youngster.
