Despite talks of nationwide bandh, the admission process took off smoothly on Monday for all the graduation courses in government colleges in the city. Though some students who reached late than the scheduled time were accommodated by the respective colleges, none was reported to have failed to reach the spot.

While the admission for BBA and BCA courses in the city government was conducted as the centralised process at PGGC-11,the admission for BA and BSc was done on the spot. The cut-off for BCA for UT pool was 71.8 per cent and for general pool it was 77.5 per cent. The seats are divided in UT and general pool as 85:15 ratio. There are total 240 seats offered for BCA in four government colleges.

Similarly, for BBA,the cut-off went to 65.8 per cent (UT pool) and 73.6 per cent (general pool). The total number of seats are 120 offered in two city government colleges.

While BCA was offered in PGGC-11,PGGCG-11,PGGCG-42 and PGGC-46,BBA was offered in PGGC-11 and GCCBA-42. “We received a few calls (around 10 am) from parents and students complaining of facing difficulty in reaching the spot due to bandh. They were informed that they would be accommodated even if they reach by 2 pm,” said Principal PGGC-11,Dr Sham Sunder.

Also, the officials have decided that by the end of the day if any seats under the reserved category are not filled up,these would be converted into unreserved seats and allotted accordingly to the students in the waiting list, though preference would be given to students under UT pool.

PGGCG-11 came out as a preferred choice among the students in other courses offered at government colleges. Among courses, maximum seats in BA got filled followed by BSc non-medical and BSc computer science. All the colleges claimed that BSc medical did not fetch a good response. July 15 is the last day for admissions.
