Meet the baap of stunts,Alan Amin

With John,he shot bikes to stardom. With Hrithik,he vroomed the audience into a whole new world where stunts are ‘choreographed’,where action sequences add that dash of drama and in a matter of frames, transform the actor into a die-hard action hero. This is the beauty of action, and stunt guru Alan Amin has been doing it to perfection for 25 years now. “Not a single accident to date,” Alan does a touch wood and tips us to watch out for Imraan Khan in Luck, where he’s made the actors swim with sharks! “But first,I checked it out,” Alan stresses on one thing every stunt master lives by – safety. “Followed by an amazing power to convince your actors to perform, and then have the patience to see them through,” adds Amin, who grew up in an action-packed environment thanks to stunt guru father,A Gani Amin. “I used to race bikes,” he tells us,which explains his love and passion for the machine, and compels us to mention his fantabulous work in Dhoom series. “A car moves the body, but a bike moves the soul,” philosophises the man,in town for the Pulsar MTV Stunt Mania auditions where he “promises spectacular a la James Bond opening scenes, stunts that will have your heart thumping with every move.”

He’s come a long way from body doubles and knock-out days to watching bikes crash into cars, zoom over highways, airplanes colliding with trains. And yes,he feels times are much better now. “With special effects, technology, high risk-taking actors,an action director has a lot to look forward to,especially in the Indian industry where you get to devise your own stunts and sequences unlike Hollywood where the scriptwriter pens his own action scene,” he refers to his Hollywood projects Deceivers with Pierce Brosnan,Kamasutra and Deepa Mehta’s Earth and Fire. Looking forward to Luck and Prince,it’s Big B’s 300-feet fall from a cliff in Aks that Alan remembers the most. “Making him do that stunt was a high point,” he made Aishwarya do almost a similar drop in Dhoom. “Stunts are all a matter of mind and attitude, and I personally like those which leave you awe-struck,” and here he refers to the baap of all,John Woo. We agree too!
