AAI to provide green cover to international airport

With the first phase of construction at the airport in progress at Mohali,the plantation will begin soon.

This project is being undertaken under the corporate social responsibility of the Airport Authority of India (AAI).

It is being implemented by Kalyanmayee—Airport Authority’s Women Welfare Association.

The association consists of women officials and families of AAI officials.

The goal of the association is to carry out the corporate social responsibility commitments of the AAI.

“The AAI wanted to carry out the plantations at the Chandigarh International Airport under its corporate social responsibility,so Kalyanmayee came forward to take up the project.

The AAI,Chandigarh,already has the plants. The plantation was postponed due to delay in construction work and non-suitable weather. The process will start within this month,” said Chandigarh Airport Director Suneel Dutt.

Initially,the plantations will be done along the boundary wall which is under construction.

This would be followed by other areas selected for green covers. According to the officials,the green cover target is at least 1,000 trees,so 1,500 trees are being planted in case there is any destruction.

The officials said only one variety will be planted at the entire premises.

This will not only provide uniformity in appearance,but also ensure there is no hindrance to the air traffic since the silver oak trees do not attract birds.

According to the layout,the airport will have two green landscape areas adjacent to hangars and cargo complex.

There will be a huge landscape area at the entrance as well.
