A Time to Unwind

Preparations for the fest requires at least one or two months of hard work. “And then the awaited day passes away at just the wink of an eye and you are required to give your best shot,” says Manpreet Singh,president of Government College,Sector 11. “We’ve been rigorously working for the fest,” he adds. With different colleges hosting the fest every year,there is a tremendous stress to do something different. “Getting noticed requires umpteen hours of toil,” he says. Rajnesh Kashup,a theater artist teaching skit to the Saksham Theater Group of SD College,Sector 32,nods in agreement. “Everything requires dedication. For a skit, the skeletal structure is decided initially and the interested students are registered. After that,the auditions take place,” Kashup says. “Preparing an item is a huge responsibility. Everything needs a clear outline. Even if we have to perform a mime,we have to test it in all the possible cases,” says Supriya Sinha of Government College for Girls,Sector 11.

Arguments and tiffs are an intrinsic part of the preparatory process. Ajul Sethia,a BA student of Government College for Girls,Sector 42,tells us they have been having fights for the last one week regarding the choice of song they will sing. “Confusion always marks preparation for fests,” she says. “We have to design,code,test and make it work within a short span of one month,” she says. But it’s worth the effort. “No festival is as big as the youth festival. Whether you win or lose,from here you surely take back colourful memories of vibrant,fun-filled days and hope that probably you will win next time round,” signs off Karan,a student of SD College.
