Students are gearing up for PUs Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival scheduled later this month
It is a time to unwind in the Panjab University campus. Loud music greets you at the college gate, dholwallas beat their drums in sync and skits take place at various corners of the college as the day nears for the Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival. Scheduled to start on September 19 at Government College,Sector 11,preparations for it had started a month ago, says lecturer Harmeet Kaur of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College,Sector 26. Busy honing a group of six for patriotic singing,Kaur is preparing for the final rehearsals. Agrees Dr Paramjit Kaur, drama and theater-in-charge. Our college skit has won many prizes over the years,so the endeavour is to put up something better, she says, adding that bhangra, gidda and fine art contests are among the most rehearsed events of the college. For now, practice sessions are designated to after-college hours.
Arguments and tiffs are an intrinsic part of the preparatory process. Ajul Sethia,a BA student of Government College for Girls,Sector 42,tells us they have been having fights for the last one week regarding the choice of song they will sing. Confusion always marks preparation for fests, she says. We have to design, code, test and make it work within a short span of one month, she says. But its worth the effort. No festival is as big as the youth festival. Whether you win or lose, from here you surely take back colourful memories of vibrant,fun-filled days and hope that probably you will win next time round, signs off Karan,a student of SD College.
