The change is noticeable, and lends itself well to both the food and ambience at The Pewter Room,or TPR,as the restaurant will now be called. For starters, the previous fine-dine ambience has made way for a casual and chic environment. If you have dined here previously, youll spot the glamourous touches such as vintage fashion prints, large armchairs,a huge screen and a swanky bar. Theres also the addition of live music by the band,Rodrigues. The changes, claims owner Ganeev Bains, are a collective effort by himself along with his mother, interior designer Annu Bains, and hospitality consultant Sonia Mohindra.
The kitchen at TPR now rolls on 10 am onwards and the new menu boasts of European cuisine, global influences and Indian insights. The breakfast range offers the likes of waffles, paranthas, pancakes, eggs to order and even an indulgent bacon and egg pizza. If youre constantly watching what you eat, choose the TPR Skinny Breakfast that packs in an omelette, grilled chicken breast, grilled tomato and a bowl of fresh cut fruits, with toasted multi-grain bread. For sandwich lovers,Bocadillos,a fresh platter of smoked chicken and mozzarella, mini sandwiches served,French fries and salad combines various textures to emerge as a wholesome meal.
An intelligent addition is Small Plate Menu,pre-portioned servings at comfortable prices, allowing one to taste more dishes, from a range of options. Its extensive and caters to various tastes.
There are Maldivian crab meat cakes,Chicken Shish Touk,Spanish Albondigas,Baba Ganoush accompanying Goat Cheese Gratins and even salads in small plates. Our recommendation Otak Otak,a Malaysian preparation of steamed fish cake wrapped in banana leaf, served with sweet chili sauce. The leaf lends the fish an organic flavour, with the fish delicately flavoured with spices being tender, yet not gooey. We paired it with French toast, served with stewed fruit and honey. The combination of the generous infusion of bread with the egg,and the sweetness of the fruit gives the all-time favourite a new twist. Keeping with the anytime theme, sandwiches, burgers, lasagne and thin-crust pizzas dot the menu.
In the main course section, traversing the globe with casual flavours are dishes such as Miso Marinated Salmon with Chilli Tamarind Pokchoy,Australian Lamb Chops and Char Sui Spare Ribs,Mangalorean Curry,Legume Tagine and Grilled Corn Crepes. We recommend the delicately flavoured steamed basa with lemongrass, chilli coconut broth and basil rice. The desserts also come in small plates but promise hearty indulgence. Italian Tiramisu,French Crème Brulee,Baked Alaska and cheese cakes are there to choose from.
