The UT Police Operations Cell has booked six persons who were allegedly working as agents in Sector 34 for providing employment to young graduates. Four of the accused were arrested after the Operations Cell got a tip-off about the allegedly fake company,Cynazeus,from Sector 34.
Kamlesh Thakur,a resident of Sector 52,Navdeep Singh,a resident of Bathinda,Tabish Ahmed,a resident of Malerkotla and Vijay Bedi,a resident of Mohali were arrested Thursday evening.
Explaining the modus operandi used by the accused,the inspector said,The gang used to acquire a database of students from an internet portal. These students were contacted on their mobile numbers and were asked to give an interview with their company. They usually called the students who were residents of nearby cities in Punjab,Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. There are very few persons in their list of clients who belong to Chandigarh.
The persons who were contacted by the gang were asked to pay an amount between Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,500 for filling one form. Also a registration fee of Rs 200 was also taken from the person whom they approached.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Operations,Jagbir Singh said,The accused posed as managers of banks and other top companies. They used to interview the applicants claiming that they need to prepare them for getting a job.
Police officials are now scrutinizing the proformas which were recovered by the police. We will be contacting the applicants to know the amount of money they had invested in the firm. The police is also on the look-out for the two main accused,Ramanpreet and Amarpreet,who are at large.
