40-yr-old woman dies of suspected swine flu

A 40-year-old resident of Kurukshetra died due to suspected swine flu late on Friday night. Sheela Devi was admitted in the Alchemist Hospital in Sector 21 on Tuesday and her samples were sent to Delhi on the following day.

The woman,however,died before her reports could come in. “While an official was sent to Delhi for getting her reports on an urgent basis,we have not been able to get them till date. We would be able to conclude whether it was a case of swine flu death or not only after we get the reports,” said District Health officer,Panchkula,Dr M L Garg.

Meanwhile,a 38-year-old PGI employee with the Publication department tested positive for the H1N1 influenza on Saturday. The woman had reportedly gone to Hyderabad from August 13 to 15.

She is the tenth case in the city and the third PGI employee to have tested positive.

All the four samples collected on Friday from suspected swine flu patients tested negative at the PGI virology lab. The backlog of samples from the Chandigarh region has also been cleared after the PGI lab became operational.

Meanwhile,in continuation with the school health programme on H1N1 influenza in government schools,a team from the School of Public Health,PGIMER,visited Government Model Senior Secondary School for Girls,Sector 18,on Saturday. Posters on Do’s and Don’ts,correct technique of washing hands and precautionary steps were displayed on the notice boards of the school.
