3 held in carjacking-robbery case

In connection with the carjacking and robbery case where an Insurance advisor was robbed of his Ford Ikon and other belongings on June 25 this year,the detective staff of Panchkula Police have arrested three accused on Tuesday from Sector 21,near Old Azad Colony.

Sukhdev Singh,resident of Mansa District in Punjab,Daljinder Singh,resident of Gurdaspur in Punjab and Harjit Singh,resident of Hoshiarpur,Punjab were arrested and produced before the district court on Tuesday. They will remain in Police remand till July 17.

Vinay Kumar,the victim of the carjacking,has identified the robbers. Earlier,their images were recovered from a CCTV camera installed in an SBI ATM near Banaur,which were also identified by Vinay. “Except the cash amount,everything has been returned to me”,he said.

During the search,a country made pistol with five live cartridges was found in possession of accused Sukhdev Singh. The snatched Ford Icon Car,bearing registration no. CH-01 AC-9807,was also recovered from accused Daljinder Singh.

Parul Kush Jain,Deputy Commissioner of Police,Panchkula,said,“Interrogations revealed that another person Heri,alias,Sukha,a resident of Nukka Village,Punjab,was also involved in the crime and the robbed cash amount was shared by all four. All accused are Truck Drivers from Punjab.”

Accused,Sukhdev Singh,has also admitted to being involved in another robbery in Zirakpur in February this year. In this case,the accused,along with two others,had robbed a Tata Indica,a gold ring and chain,ATM cards and mobile phones on the pretext of taking lift from the victim. The Police is expecting to solve more cases of robbery after further interrogations.

On June 25,Sunday,Vinay Kumar,a resident of Maheshpur,was robbed off his vehicle,at gun point,between 9:30 pm and 10 pm. Three ATM cards,driving license,laptop,cell phone,cheque books and Rupees 10,000,which were kept in the car,were also taken by the robbers.

Vinay,who works as an insurance advisor at Tata Consultancy Services,was driving home in his off-white Ford Ikon after dropping off a colleague at Zirakpur. On the Zirakpur-Kalka highway,he stopped the car and stepped down to relieve himself. According to Vinay,as he sat back in,a group of four men in their twenties,including one wearing a turban,stopped and took him hostage.

They hit him on the head,with the butt of the gun,after which he became unconscious for a while. When he regained consciousness,he tried to put up a fight. However,he surrendered after they fired once in the air to threaten him. Vinay also reported that they tried to make him swallow some pills. After he refused to do so,Vinay was pushed out of the car at the road between Banur and Landran.

The victim immediately informed his family from a nearby petrol pump. Policemen from Sohana station in Mohali district reached the spot. A case was registered with the Sector 5 police station and the probe was transferred to the detective staff.
