The Bharatiya Janata Party today organised a protest against the Congress for cancellation of the construction of a day market at Mauli Jagran. The protest was held at Maloya where by-elections are to be held on Saturday.
Shopkeepers along with BJP workers gathered near the site for a bus stand at Maloya and raised slogans against the Congress. Recently,the construction of the day market at Maloya was canceled after the agenda was brought to the general house of the MC by the Congress. With support of the nominated councillors,the agenda was passed. The market was to be constructed for street vendors. While protests were being held at Mauli Jagran for the past few days,today they were held at Maloya.
Senior BJP leader Satya Pal Jain while campaigning for party candidate Bindu Rani said that the policies of the Congress have led to unemployment and inflation.
Meanwhile,campaigning by the other political parties also continued. Congress candidate Poonam Sharma promised development in the area if elected. She promised to complete the pending projects of the ward. A number of Congress leaders visited the voters seeking votes. The members of Chandigarh Nagrik Manch declared their support for her.
The BSP candidate Seema Yadav along with the partys leaders held public meetings in the ward. Senior leaders of the party Narender Kashyap and Avtar Singh Karimpuri went from door to door to seek for votes. Ravinder Hans,the general secretary of the Balmiki Samaj also addressed a public meeting in the ward.
