3 cops thrashed at check post,2 held

The incident took place during a special anti-snatching naka on the road on Sunday night. A police team spotted two motorcyclists,one of whom was riding without a helmet. The police stopped the motorcyclists,who were drunk. Instead of admitting to their offence,they began arguing with the policemen,saying the naka was set up to harass people.

They claimed they were employed at the Sector-32 Government Medical College and Hospital and asked the police to let them go.

The police said the motorcyclists tried to flee from the spot and two Home Guard volunteers stopped them. In the process,the motorcyclists manhandled the volunteers and head constable Dilbag Singh. They tore the uniform of the policemen and additional force had to be called to control them.

The accused,identified as Bhag Singh and Darshan Singh of Mohali district,were later taken to the Sector-16 Government Multi Specialty Hospital,where their medical tests confirmed they were drunk. A case of causing hurt and obstructing a government servant from discharging his duty was registered against the accused. They were produced before a local court on Monday,which remanded them to judicial custody.

“The two were drunk and misbehaved with the policemen and got engaged in a violent scuffle,” said Janak Rana,SHO,Sector-39 police station.
