A Sonpeat-based couple was arrested on charges of twin murder today. A woman and her daughter were allegedly shot dead by the couple and three-four unidentified accomplices,over an old dispute pertaining to tying of cattle,in the area. Police suspect the couple allegedly hired some contract killers to execute the job.
Those arrested include Jagbir and his wife Guddi.
The incident took place Friday night,when Jagbir and his wife Guddi,accompanied by an armed young man Sheelu and three others,barged into Sunils residence and started assaulting them. In the process,Sheelu allegedly pulled out a revolver and fired gunshots at Sunil and his family,which left Sunils mother Santosh and sister Seema dead. Sunil and his wife Reena also sustained serious injuries. While Santosh was declared dead on arrival at the civil hospital,Sonepat,Seema died on her way to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS),Rohtak.
Sunil and Jagbir Singh stay in the same locality and are neighbours. They have a history of dispute on tying of cattles in the area. Many times,police had intervened in their arguments,arising out of the issue of tying of cattle in front of their house. The same dispute,led to a heated argument,which resulted in major fight on Friday night. We have arrested the couple and hunt for nabbing the rest of the accused is still on, said Inspector Kanwal Singh,Station House Officer,Sadar police station.
