2 die in E-way accident

A retired surgeon and her three-year-old granddaughter were killed and her son and daughter-in-law were critically injured after their car hit an unidentified vehicle and then went off the Pune-Mumbai Expressway before landing into a pit on Wednesday afternoon near Somatane Phata.

A retired surgeon and her three-year-old granddaughter were killed and her son and daughter-in-law were critically injured after their car hit an unidentified vehicle and then went off the Pune-Mumbai Expressway before landing into a pit on Wednesday afternoon near Somatane Phata. Police said the family was on its way to Pune to attend a Ganesh idol installation ceremony in Kothrud.

Police said the deceased have been identified as Saroj Vinod Bhat (73) and Aarohi Ashish Bhat. The injured have been identified as Ashish Vinod Bhat (30) and Rikta (25),a doctor. Police said the family is a resident of Pancham Street in Andheri West and owns a dispensary in the same area. Assistant sub-inspector with Talegaon Dabhade police station Chandrashekhar Dalvi said,“The injured are undergoing treatment at Lokmanya Hospital in Nigdi.”

Dalvi added,“Prima facie it looked that the Manza car they were travelling in hit an unidentified vehicle and the driver lost control. The car then turned turtle before going off the road and landing into a roadside pit.”
