As the city celebrated Holi, police challaned 1,383 vehicles for various traffic violations. Of these, 171 vehicles were impounded. The police received 2,364 calls at the Police Control Room (PCR) and attended to 458 spots, which is double the usual number.
Of the vehicles challaned, 21 were held for drunk driving, 598 for driving without helmet and 19 for dangerous driving. Also, 23 residents were taken to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 with injuries. Doctors there said most injuries were caused due to eggs thrown at people. The police also seized crates of eggs from some residents.
Around 54 nakas were laid and patrolling parties were present across the city. Around 61 PCR vehicles were deployed at 20 points with 1,200 police personnel, including 8 DSPs, 17 Inspectors and 11 SHOs present. A total of 4,265 vehicles were checked with 215 personnel of the traffic wing and 60 personnel of the security wing deployed for the purpose.
