10-year term for raping 8-month-old

The Additional Sessions Court of Moga has sentenced a man to ten years jail term for raping an eight-month-old girl in March 2008.

Judge S K Aggarwal pronounced the judgment on Tuesday after it was proved beyond doubt that Nahar Singh,a resident of Rodu Basti in Baghapurana,had committed the crime.

The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Nahar and said while half of this amount was to be paid to the family of the girl,the rest would be deposited with the government.

Nahar,who worked as a daily labour,was a tenant in the victims house. According to the police,the owner of the house and Nahar did not share cordial relations and the latter committed the crime to settle personal scores.

Nahar raped the girl when she was playing inside her room,alone, and her mother was in the kitchen.
