Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday said tenders for the Karnataka government’s ambitious Sky Deck Project will be floated in the next eight to 10 days.

Speaking at the Dakshin Bharat Utsav, which was jointly organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) and the Karnataka Tourism Department, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government is mulling over a new tourism policy to attract investments.

“Cubbon Park and Lal Bagh have been the traditional tourist places in Bengaluru. To create new tourist spots for a new generation of people, we have planned a Sky Deck in Bengaluru. We will be inviting new tenders for the same in the next 8-10 days,” said Shivakumar, adding that the government has also planned to develop Brindavana along the lines of Disneyland.

Shivakumar had recently inspected the 105-acre New Government Electrical Factory (NGEF) land, where the 250m-long Sky Deck is expected to be built. Located near the Baiyappanahalli metro station, the NGEF land was strategically chosen to encourage people to opt for public transportation.

Earlier this year, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had selected Bengaluru-based Designtree Service Consultants Pvt Ltd to develop a detailed project report (DPR) for the Rs 4.57-crore tower, which will be equipped with food courts and play arenas among other amenities.

“A good tourism policy will attract industrialists and investments. When industrialists do well, the government gets more revenue, more jobs are created, and the industry grows,” said Shivakumar, adding that efforts were being made to develop Bengaluru as a tourist hub and to develop Karnataka’s 300-km coastline.

“An 18% GST is killing the tourism industry. If the businesses lose more than half the money to taxes, they will not be motivated enough to invest more. It is important that the people and the industry raise these issues,” he said, urging the investors and industrialists in the tourism industry to submit their demands in writing to the government.
