An alleged victim of a rape attempt in Bengaluru has been booked for negligent driving after the police found that she had crashed her car into two auto-rickshaws on Saturday night, hours before she was assaulted.

On August 18, the police registered a case against the 21-year-old college student who was returning with her friend from a pub in Koramangala on Saturday night for hitting the autorickshaws that were parked near Mangala Junction at around 11.45 pm.

The Adugodi traffic police have launched a probe into the incident based on the complaint by Ajaz A, an auto-rickshaw driver, who stated that the woman was driving her car recklessly after taking a U-turn and hit his vehicle and another auto-rickshaw and fled the spot.

Ajaz and the other auto-rickshaw driver chased the car near Forum Mall junction at a signal and questioned them about the accident, but the woman and her friend abandoned the car and escaped, the police said.

According to the police, the woman then hitched a ride from choreographer Mukeshwaran, who has been arrested in connection with the case. They said Mukeshwaran, 24, a resident of S R Nagar, near Adugodi, allegedly took her to an isolated place and tried to sexually assault her. He fled the spot as she had raised an SOS on her phone.

The police on Monday arrested Mukeshwaran alias Mahesh, a Tamil Nadu native who has been living in Bengaluru with his family since 2003.

The Adugodi traffic police have filed a case under Section 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 134(b) (give on demand by a police officer any information required by him/her) and 187 (failing to comply 134(b)) of Indian Motor Vehicles Act.
