Namma BMTC app: Live bus tracking app finally launched for Bengaluru bus commuters
The app which can now be downloaded on Android and iOS platforms offers real-time tracking of BMTC buses and also an SOS alert feature for flagging emergency situations

The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transportation Corporation (BMTC) finally launched the NIMBUS app on Thursday, which has now been renamed Namma BMTC app. Developed by MCT Cards & Technology and Amnex Infotechnologies, the app that aims at easing passenger commute had missed several deadlines.
The app which can now be downloaded on Android and iOS platforms is a passenger information system that offers real-time tracking of BMTC buses and also an SOS alert feature for flagging emergency situations. According to BMRCL officials, the app was supposed to be launched in December 2022, which was then postponed to January this year, then February and again to March. However, the reason for postponement every time remained the same – ‘fixing bugs’.
Some of the features in the app include tracking nearby bus stops, journey planners, tracking a live bus route, exploring amenities in bus stops, a fare calculator (coming soon), an SOS button, BMTC helpline numbers, and much more. BMTC officials believe the decreasing use of public transportation in Bengaluru is due to a lack of information on bus routes. As a result, live bus tracker apps help bridge the information gap and boost the use of public transport, which can reduce traffic and pollution.
Namma BMTC app is available in dual languages – Kannada and English – with a simple option to switch between the two languages. People can use the app without signing in as a user. However, some features such as SOS to trusted contacts, notification alerts, and profiles will be restricted. Currently, the app is tracking over 3,600 buses.
