5 medical students in Karnataka held for ‘peddling’ ganja

The Karnataka Police Saturday arrested five medical students on charges of peddling ganja (cannabis). One of the suspects has also been accused of cultivating ganja. The police seized ganja worth Rs 42,000 from the accused during the raids in Shivamogga district.

The accused have been identified as Vighnaraj, 28, a native of Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu; Vinod Kumar, 27, a native of Idukki district in Kerala; Pandidorai, 27, a native of Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu; Abdul Khayam, 25, a native of Vijayapura; and Arpita, 24, a native of Kottur in Vijayanagar district. Acting on a tip-off, the police found that Vighnaraj was engaged in the illicit trade for nearly three and a half months.

Kumar and Pandidorai were caught while attempting to purchase ganja.

The police have seized 227 gram of ganja, 1.53 kilogram of raw ganja, 10 gram of charas, a small bottle containing ganja seeds, three cannabis oil syringes, two cans used for processing ganja powder, an electronic weighing machine, an exit fan, six table fans, two stabilizers, three LED lights, rolling paper, two hookah pipes, four hookah caps, hemp stems, and Rs 19,000 in cash. A case has been registered against the suspects at Shivamogga rural police station.
