Arun Kumar climbed the compound wall, trying to reach the bird, but came in contact with a 66,000 kV live wire. A person got electrocuted while trying to rescue a pet parrot perched on a high-tension wire in Bengaluru.
The victim has been identified as Arun Kumar, 32, a native of Nagamangala in Mandya district, who was on a visit to his relative’s apartment in Veerabhadra Nagar under Girinagar police limits at the time of his death.
The incident took place on Friday morning, when Arun Kumar came to know that the pet parrot, reportedly brought from abroad for Rs 2 lakh, was perched on a high-tension wire. Arun Kumar climbed the compound wall, trying to reach the bird, but came in contact with a 66,000 kV live wire. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
Following the death, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) officials and police personnel inspected the site. BESCOM officials were heckled by locals, who expressed their anger over having a high-tension wire inside the apartment complex.
The Girinagar police have registered a case of unnatural death and are further probing the incident. According to the police, the victim’s relative had purchased the parrot several months ago.
“Arun Kumar often visited the relative’s apartment, and he was also fond of the parrot, which is why he attempted to rescue it. It doesn’t look like the relative asked or forced him to do so,” a police officer said.
