The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed a 2,481-page chargesheet against BJP MLA Munirathna Naidu before a special court for elected representatives last week. The BJP MLA has been charged with rape, voyeurism, and attempting to spread HIV.
Last month, the SIT had filed a chargesheet against Naidu for allegedly hurling casteist abuses against Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) corporator Velunayakar during a conversation with BBMP contractor Chaluvaraju.
A senior police officer said that in the recent chargesheet filed against Munirathna, he has been charged under Sections 376(2)(n) (commits rape repeatedly on the same woman), 354A (sexual harassment), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 354C (voyeurism) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
In its chargesheet, the SIT has mentioned that Naidu planned to inject Leader of Opposition R Ashoka with HIV-infected blood. The police have also named R Sudhakar, P Srinivas, and suspended inspector B Iyyanna Reddy in the chargesheet. They have been accused of destroying evidence and criminal conspiracy.
Last week, Naidu filed a complaint with the Nandini Layout police station after an egg was thrown at him. He alleged that the egg contained acid and caused a burning sensation.
