Karnataka police to seek custody of Rene Joshilda, robotics engineer held over bomb hoaxes sent ‘to frame man’

(Representative image)A 30-year-old robotics engineer arrested by the Gujarat police for sending bomb threat emails allegedly to take revenge on a man whom she wanted to marry but could not is also wanted in a case where schools in Udupi received similar emails, the police in the coastal city of Karnataka said on Tuesday.
Hariram Shankar, Superintendent of Police, Udupi, said the police would seek Joshilda’s custody for investigation.
“We will write to Ahmedabad police once they complete the investigation,” he added.
Rene Joshilda, a robotics engineer based in Chennai, was arrested by the Gujarat cyber police after she allegedly sent an email claiming responsibility for the June 12 Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad that killed 241 people on board and others. The investigation has revealed that she had sent similar emails to 11 other states, including Karnataka, according to the police.
She allegedly sent an email to BJ Medical College also, stating, “…Now you know we are not playing.” The plane had crashed into the hostel buildings of the medical college.
According to reports, while working in Bengaluru, Joshilda was in a one-sided relationship with a man she had met at work. After he married another woman in February, Joshilda allegedly started sending bomb threat emails in his name.
