Lokayukta raids unearth Rs 24 Crore in assets from five govt officers across Karnataka

Officers said the raids were being carried out in Bengaluru, Chitradurga, Chikkaballapur, and Hassan. Last week, searches were conducted at premises linked to eight government officials, including IAS officer Dr Vasanti Amar B V.

The Karnataka Lokayukta police Tuesday, unearthed unaccounted assets worth over Rs 24 crore in simultaneous raids across the state targeting five government officers facing charges of amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The searches were conducted in over 25 locations linked to the officers, including their residences, offices, and premises belonging to relatives, in Bengaluru, Chitradurga, Hassan, and Chikkaballapur. These operations followed multiple Disproportionate Assets (DA) cases registered in various Lokayukta police stations.

In Bengaluru, Lokayukta officials searched the premises of K. Omprakash, Senior Assistant Director of Horticulture at BDA. Raids across five locations revealed immovable assets including two houses and two sites valued at over Rs 4.78 crore. In addition, officials recovered cash, gold ornaments, vehicles, and fixed deposits totaling over Rs 1.47 crore. The cumulative value of assets seized from Omprakash stood at Rs 6.26 crore.

In another case from Bengaluru, N. Venkatesh, a Tax Assessor with BBMP’s Shettyhalli Sub-Division, was found in possession of three houses, two sites, a farmhouse, and agricultural land together valued at over Rs 2.25 crore. Movable assets including cash, vehicles, and ornaments added up to Rs 32.5 lakh, taking the total seizure to Rs 2.57 crore.

In Chitradurga, Dr. Venkatesh G, Taluk Health Officer of Hiriyur, came under the scanner. Raids at three locations revealed five sites, two houses, and over three acres of agricultural land worth nearly Rs 2.87 crore. Movable assets, including vehicles, cash, jewellery, and household items, were valued at about Rs 67.5 lakh. The total haul from his properties stood at Rs 3.54 crore.

One of the largest individual recoveries was made in Hassan, where Jayanna R, Executive Engineer at the National Highway Division, was raided. Officials unearthed 17 sites, eight houses, and agricultural land valued at over Rs 5.59 crore. Additional movable assets worth Rs 69.35 lakh were seized, taking the total to Rs 6.28 crore.

In Chikkaballapur, the Lokayukta Police raided eight locations linked to Anjaneya Murthy M, a Junior Engineer with the Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Department. He was found to own five sites, a commercial complex, and a house valued at over Rs 4.83 crore. Movable assets, including gold, vehicles, and other valuables, were pegged at Rs 93.65 lakh, taking the total value of assets to Rs 5.77 crore.
