Hijab will be allowed in schools and colleges, says CM Siddaramaiah
Taking it to X he said, “ PM @narendramodi 's sab ka saath-sabka vikas is bogus. @BJP4India is doing the work of dividing people and dividing society on the basis of clothes, dress, caste. I have told (officials) to withdraw the hijab ban.”

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Friday said he has instructed officials to withdraw the hijab ban order introduced by the previous BJP government and that students can start wearing hijab to education institutions.
Siddaramaiah was speaking at the inauguration of new police stations in Mysuru. “We will withdraw the order banning hijab. I have instructed officials to withdraw the order. Wearing a dress or eating the food you like, is your choice,” he said.
Siddaramaiah was referring to the February 2022 order issued by the BJP government that made uniforms prescribed by school and college development and monitoring committees compulsory in government and aided education institutions and that no other head scarf or shawl shall be worn as part of the uniform.
On X he said, “PM @narendramodi’s sab ka saath-sabka vikas is bogus. @BJP4India is doing the work of dividing people and dividing society on the basis of clothes, dress, caste. I have told (officials) to withdraw the hijab ban.”
Earlier, School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa had told The Indian Express: “We cannot change the government order on hijab just like that. The law department will fight for it and make a decision. Suddenly, imposing a ban on hijab was not needed.”
Revoking the ban on hijab was one of the poll promises of the Congress ahead of the state polls.
When Muslim girls challenged the February order in Karnataka HC, the court in March 2022 had dismissed their pleas. While the matter is still subjudice, the Supreme Court in October 2022 had delivered a split verdict.
