Heavy rain to lash North Bengal from August 11 to 13: IMD

The IMD has advised: “There is a possibility of landslides in the hilly areas of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts. People should avoid movement in waterlogging-prone and landslide-prone areas.”

In South Bengal, the districts of Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia are likely to experience thunderstorms along with gusty winds at isolated places, and have been placed under a yellow alert. The remaining South Bengal districts, including Kolkata, are likely to receive light to moderate rain at most places during the week.

The local forecast for Kolkata on Monday indicates that the city will experience a hot and humid day, with a generally cloudy sky and the possibility of light rain and thunderstorms in some areas. Temperatures remain on the higher side, with a maximum of 33.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 28.4 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity will range from a maximum of 93 percent to a minimum of 64 percent.

On August 11, South Bengal recorded some of the highest daytime temperatures in the state, with Kalaikunda leading at 36.3 degrees Celsius, followed by Salt Lake at 35.7 degrees Celsius, Dumdum at 35.3 degrees Celsius, and Jhargram at 35.0 degrees Celsius. In contrast, North Bengal saw much cooler conditions, with Darjeeling recording the lowest minimum temperature at 16.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Kalimpong at 20.5 degrees Celsius, Cooch Behar at 26.0 degrees Celsius, and Jalpaiguri at 25.7 degrees Celsius.
